A Fun Wedding Photography Website
When “Just OK” Isn’t Enough
When Emily reached out, her website wasn’t doing justice to her work. She’s an incredibly talented wedding photographer, but her site felt generic and didn’t speak to the couples she wanted to attract.
Emily came to me during her busy wedding season with a challenge – she wanted something vibrant and engaging, but wasn’t sure exactly what that looked like.. she said “Make it fun and interesting, but I have no idea what I want.” and handed me a collection of gorgeous photos and said, “I trust you – work your magic.”
The Real Challenge
Emily’s brand is all about celebrating couples who aren’t afraid to be themselves. Her motto is #ShowYourUniqueStyle, and she photographs the most wonderfully unconventional weddings. But her website just looked like every other generic photography site out there – nothing was making her stand out.
The old site was stuck on WordPress.com, which severely limited what she could do. Plus, it wasn’t speaking to her ideal couples – those fun-loving, authentic people who want their wedding photos to tell their real story, not some cookie-cutter version.
What I Actually Did (And Why)
- First things first - First, I moved her from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. This gave us complete creative control to build something that actually felt like Emily, not another template.
- Zero Downtime - I built her entire new site on a temporary domain while her old one stayed live. During wedding season, every day without a website could mean lost bookings, so this was non-negotiable.
- A brand that actually fits - Emily wanted beachy, inclusive, and bold. So instead of the typical minimal photographer aesthetic, we created something that matched her personality. Vibrant colours, playful typography, and a layout as warm and welcoming as Emily herself.
- Smart contact forms - Added conditional logic to her contact form so couples only see relevant questions. Wedding clients get wedding questions, family session inquiries get family-focused fields. Clean, relevant, and less overwhelming.
- Mobile-first thinking - Most couples browse late at night on their phones (we've all been there). Every element had to look stunning and load quickly on mobile. No more pinching and zooming to see her beautiful work.
- Streamlined Experience – Reorganised the layout so people can find what they need fast. Compressed images for lightning-fast loading without compromising quality, and created navigation that actually makes sense.
- Strategic Showcasing– Made sure her stunning photography takes center stage with no awkward crops or distractions. Added natural call-to-actions throughout the site that feel like helpful next steps, not pushy sales tactics.
- Simplified navigation – No one likes digging through confusing menus. I reworked the navigation so visitors can instantly jump to the services they’re interested in, whether that’s weddings, families, or something else entirely. Clean, clear, and easy to use.
- Celebrating the wins – Emily’s work has been featured and recognised in some pretty cool places, so I made sure we showcased that. Not in a shouty way, just enough to build trust and show she knows her stuff.
The Results
The new site doesn’t just look better – it works harder for Emily’s business. Her photography is front and center, the booking process flows smoothly, and most importantly, it attracts the right couples. The ones who see her work and think “Yes, this is exactly who we want capturing our day!”
But honestly, Emily's reaction says it all better than I ever could:
Why This Approach Works
A website isn’t just about looking good. It’s about connecting with the right clients and guiding them to book. By focusing on Emily’s brand, values, and ideal audience, we created a site that showcases her work authentically and makes it easy for couples to take the next step.
