Ways to make money from your website
Would you like to generate additional income for your business? If your website is well-optimized, there are methods to generate passive income. Consider the following strategies to increase your website’s earnings in 2023.
9 ways to make money from your website in 2023
1. Sell physical products
This is probably the most obvious one that comes to mind when earning money through a website. E-commerce allows you to sell to a global audience 24/7! Sell all your products online to a much larger population than in a physical store alone.
Set up a store with unlimited products and sell to all corners of the globe, or limit it to a specific country or city if you prefer. Charge for delivery depending on location, have automated sales, use coupon codes or bundles and display products the way you want them to be seen.
This is fantastic for both small business owners who want to sell goods but don’t want to invest in a physical store and entrepreneurs who have a store but want to expand their business by reaching a larger audience.
2. Sell digital products
In the same way, you can sell physical products online, as you also can sell downloadable or streamable files including ebooks, templates, graphics and PDFs on your website. These products are a great way of earning an ongoing passive income from your site.
3. Sell a service
Another common way female entrepreneurs can make money online is by selling their services (for example I Do Website Design, so my website is showing what I do). A service could be anything – from creating tailored diet plans to a window cleaning business, to wedding photography.
This works in much the same way as online stores. The big difference is, you don’t need an e-commerce-specific website builder or an online shop – you display the services that you offer and how to get in touch to book them, or provide a booking calendar so people can book the service themself for a time and date that you are both available.
4. Add a Members’ Area
You can share exclusive content and privileges with paying members.
Membership areas can provide ongoing value to users a sense of community and help grow your passive revenue.
Member’s area can include an online course (academic or fitness or anything in which you are an expert and can teach to others) which people sign up for and receive audio or video content. People can sign up and pay a once-off fee or a monthly subscription to receive access to the course contents.
5. Utilise email marketing
Add a sign-up form to your website and start building your email list. Email marketing can help build relationships, nurture leads and convert them into paying customers.
You can email subscribers with recommended products that they might be interested in (affiliate promotion), and earn various commissions if they sign up or buy something.
6. Incorporate advertising
They may be annoying to some people, but ads are some of the best ways of making money through your website.
The most common way to sell ad space is by using a pay-per-click model. This is where you receive a commission from the advertisers every time someone clicks through to their advert from your web page.
The average CPC (cost per click) for sites selling ad space is $0.25. To put that into some context, you’ll have to be generating around a hundred clicks a day to earn $10,000 a year in profit.
The most popular way of incorporating ads on your website is by using Google Adsense. This involves Google embedding the code on your website in order to advertise, and reading what your page is about to ensure all ads are relevant to your content.
7. Sponsored content & product reviews
Sponsored posts are adverts in the form of a blog or article, usually containing the advertiser’s website link. If you have a large following, companies will pay you to write a post or review of their product.
An advertiser may send you the post for you, but if you can write the content yourself for their brand, you can charge for your time too and earn some extra money.
8. Affiliate marketing
Being an affiliate means you promote a product or service to your website’s visitors. In return, you earn a small commission if a purchase occurs through your link. For example, I am an affiliate of Steph My Life Tech Bootcamps (SMLTB) so if you sign up for one of her courses such as the (female entrepreneurs bootcamp or freelancer bootcamp) through my link I will earn a small percentage of the course price. This works out beneficial for everyone. The business gets more eyes on the page and possible bookings, I get a small fee if someone signs up and there are no negative impacts to the customer.
9. Use drop-shipping
Create an e-commerce website where shoppers can browse and buy products from you. With drop-shipping you don’t have to physically manage the products you sell, your supplier handles everything from manufacturing to packaging to fulfilment. You also don’t need to send your supplier money until your customers pay for the products so there’s minimal risk.
